Nature amazes, excites, and inspires me!
Henry David Thoreau wrote,
"The question is not what you look at,
but what you see."
Studying and painting nature helps me see it more fully
and participate in its celebration of life.
Using composition,
color compliments, and layers of oil paint, each painting
becomes
my passion
to share nature's inspiration with others.
Influenced by artists such as Claude Monet and Paul Gauguin,
I love focusing on light and color
to capture the essence of what
draws me to my subjects. I work with color compliments under
the surface layer of paint; only as the finishing layer is added, does the beauty of each subject
shine through.
As a high school student, I begged to get out of my mandatory art class and then fell in love
with art. Believing I would never be “good enough” to be an artist, I instead pursued degrees
in Elementary and Special Education, later adding a Gifted Education Specialist Degree.
Through sometimes difficult changes in my life, I moved into art education and received
a Masters of Art Education from Florida International University. I have shared my passion
for life and creating with students for over 20 years.
Due to health issues I am no longer teaching. Amazingly, I've gone from desperately wanting
to avoid art to being an artist with works in private collections throughout the United States,
Latin America, and Europe. My work has been accepted into juried exhibitions such as:
Beaux Art Festival
Coconut Point Festival of the Arts
Palmetto Bay Art in the Park - 2009 3rd Place Award Winner for 2-Dimensional Art
Dade Art Educators' Exhibits
Fairchild Tropical Gardens Art Exhibit
Florida Art Educators’ Exhibits
Key Biscayne Art Festival
Los Olas Art Fair
Downtown Naples Festival of the Arts
Miami Beach Festival of the Arts
Pinecrest Gardens Art Festival - 2008 1st Place Award Winner for Oil and Acrylic Painting
South Miami Art Festival - 2009 1st Place & 2008 3rd Place Award Winner for Painting
85@85 International Art Exhibition
My work has also been exhibited in south Florida galleries and the Miami Museum of
Contemporary Art. It has been published in a Small Works publication and is available
at
The Shops at Fairchild Tropical Gardens. My paintings are featured in the book,
"Art Inspirations From Nature". |
